TIPPING IN TANZANIA: HOW MUCH TO TIP ON SAFARI

While tipping for services is not obligatory, it is a common practice and greatly valued in Tanzania. Your gratuity can make a significant difference to your guide and lodge staff. Naturally, it’s advisable to offer a tip only if you are pleased with the service provided. So, what is the typical tipping protocol for safaris in Tanzania?

SMALL TIPS IN TANZANIA Most accommodations provide staff to assist with baggage handling. It is customary to offer a small tip of $1 per person (or approximately 2,500 Tanzanian Shillings). Some accommodations also have a tip-box at the reception where guests can leave a collective tip for the entire staff. It’s recommended to carry one-dollar bills for smaller tips, and you may also give tips in the local currency (Tanzanian Shilling).

TIPPING YOUR GUIDE/DRIVER It is customary to tip your guide/driver at the conclusion of your safari. The amount you decide to give is entirely at your discretion, but we recommend tipping your guide approximately $8-10 per person, per day.
